Grand Theft Auto V will stop being console-exclusive and will be released on PC in early 2014, it has been claimed.
Multiple industry sources have indicated the hugely popular game, currently available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, will come out on PC in the first quarter of 2014.
The release plan mirrors the same one used for GTA4, which was released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on April 29 before launching on PC the following December.
In August, Nvidia’s senior director of investor relations, Chris Evenden, noted a PC version of GTA 5 during a financial call.
He said: "[PC] gamers are preparing their systems for a strong roster of games coming this fall, including blockbuster franchises such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Assassin's Creed 4."
However, the firm said this was made in error and that they had no knowledge of GTA5 coming to PC.
Earlier this week, Intel executive Chris R. Silva said he expects Grand Theft Auto 5 to come to PC soon.
“At least with Grand Theft Auto I don’t think it’ll be console exclusive very long."
He also told PCGamer that "someone" had paid Rockstar to keep the game console-exclusive at launch.
"But that’s what happens when you have a brand new launch with two companies that have lots of money trying to make sure they have content.
“Somebody paid a lot of money to make sure that title was exclusive,” he said.
Supposedly, a source code for the PC and a PS4 version were found in the Xbox 360 version of the game, which oddly did not include a source code for Xbox One.
To date, almost 600,000 people have signed an online petition asking for the game to be released on PC.
